Music Mix for being festive but not TOO festive

Writer's picture: BobbyBobby

It's Monday, and that means it's time for a fresh, tailor-made, ATEEZ-centered playlist to start your week right.

I'll be honest with you--I'm a bit of a Grinch.

I don't dislike Christmas or the holidays in general, but I do get pretty burnt out pretty quickly. This year, the teachers at my school did a 12 Days of Christmas thing where we all dressed up in different themed outfits for the last 12 days of the semester. It was a lot of "wear Christmas colors," "wear a tacky Christmas sweater" (if you are a teacher, you are required by law to own a tacky Christmas sweater. Mine has a penguin on it), "wear Christmas PJs," etc. And at the faculty Christmas party last week, I confessed to my fellow teacher introverts who were hiding out in the back of the room with me that I had been all Christmased out since day 3.

In particular, it has been a long, long time since I've been a fan of Christmas music. I can tolerate it on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, but all other times I just get so sick of it. Truthfully, ATEEZ have been my constant Christmas soundtrack since 2019. Every tree I have decorated and every cookie I have baked have been to the tune of Treasure et al.

However, since this year I am in the business of making playlists for various occasions, I thought why not compile a Christmas Kpop playlist of songs that can fill my heart with Christmas joy but not make me want to jump off a Christmas cliff. As it turns out, Spotify has already made a Kpop Christmas playlist, so I thought maybe my job was already done. Except, you'll notice, there's not a single ATEEZ song on that list, which is really a lack of imagination on Spotify's part. And so today I present my version of a Kpop Christmas playlist that shamelessly steals from Spotify but also adds my secret Christmas ingredient. (The secret ingredient is ATEEZ.)

playlist highlights

The Letter - ATEEZ

Perhaps it's because Fever Epilogue was released in December, but it really is a perfect wintry album. In particular, The Letter just feels so cozy and Christmasy in a way that isn't over the top.

Miracles in December - EXO

This one's for the people for whom Christmas isn't cheery and festive but a bit gray and drab. Feel your feelings and trust that it can get better.

Love Again - John Park

It's buzzy with a big, booming bass, and I love it. It feels bright and uplifting with just the slightest little touch of Dad Rock, somehow.

I hope this playlist helps you with whatever tasks, holiday-based or otherwise, that you have left to accomplish. May your days be merry and bright, friends.

Have a most excellent week.
